The UK's finest leisure, golf and spa resort
Surrounded by over 550 acres of countryside, The Belfry introduces luxurious guest bedrooms and suites, meeting and event rooms, restaurants, bars, a nightclub, a luxury Spa and Health Club and of course amazing golf. The venue, which has three 18-hole golf courses, has hosted the Ryder Cup four times, The Belfry is a pay and play golf club, with membership available.
The origins of its main building date back to the 13th century, when it served as a manor of the Knights Templar.
The Belfry has hosted golf’s Ryder Cup on four occasions, the most recent of which was in 2002.
It also recently hosted the Betfred British Masters tournament.
The vision, diversity & sustainability
The vision for the Belfry is to reposition and refresh the brand with a more modern edge for a more diverse audience without losing the Belfry brand legacy with interior concepts that capture the natural landscape feel of the location by bringing the outside inside. To help guests create lasting memories while supporting the resort’s sustainability, ecological and ESG principles and the Belfry’s existing golfing heritage throughout the design of the resort. To craft the brand storytelling through cohesive interior design narratives that unite all areas to create a consistent guest journey. Interior concepts should appeal to existing male and new female golf members, leisure guests including couples, millennials, parents & children of all ages and corporate guests. The design needs to be fun, appeal to everyone, timeless, unique, vibrant and embrace the past and the future of the resort.
Home of the Ryder Cup
Whilst the resort is known as the spiritual home of the Ryder Cup, it is no stranger to high-profile European Tour events, with 11 in total being held at The Belfry between 1989 and 2008. The English Open has seen winners like Mark James and David Gilford, whilst the Benson & Hedges International Open witnessed champions from across the world, including Spaniard Jose Maria Olazabal, Swede Henrik Stenson, Argentinian Angel Cabrera and Englishman Paul Casey.
The golf courses
The resort has three golf courses. The Brabazon Course is the main tournament course, and the others are the PGA National and The Derby, which are recognised as world-class, having previously hosted The Ryder Cup four times – more than any other venue in the world – and 19 European Tour events, producing some of the most dramatic moments in the history of golf. The headquarters of The Professional Golfers’ Association are also located there, along with a 4-star hotel, tennis courts and a leisure spa.
