Cool swim-up bar set within a lush natural paradise
Bar Limon is a ‘swim-up bar’ located in the Jungle Zone of the Club Med Resort Called Playa Esmeralda.
The location is tranquil and idyllic, away from the activity of the village centre and the beach. It has its own cool vibe, the most popular for couples.
We worked in tandem with the architects who created the shape of the roof structure and pool shape. The forms are all organic and fluidly flowing, which connects with the architecture of the Village Centre. The roof structure is made from natural grass matériel grown on the island, thatched using traditional techniques.
The shape of the bar curves around the pool and is designed to be double-sided so that guests can enjoy drinking from the pool side or the dry side.
The materials were chosen to fit in with the jungle theme.
The pool tiles are small green mosaics, selected for their colour and size. The pool shape with so many curves require a smaller tile format. The floor tiles of the bar were chosen to complement the shades of green throughout. Dark blue and teal harmonise with the pool, with the bar materials and with the natural roof and surrounding landscaping.

The curved wood chairs were specified by us and supplied by one of our favourite Spanish suppliers. The rear banquette area was designed by FIG and constructed by INVISA. We designed the mirrors fixed to the stone wall that were also made by INVISA. The lighting over the bar is a wonderful feature, especially in the evenings. The supplier is based in the Philippines and made a lot of our lighting pieces across the resort. Fabrics were supplied by GPJ Baker.
The pool furniture is by one of our favourite outdoor furniture suppliers. Umbrellas are by TUCCI. You only have to look at Instagram to see how popular this bar is! It has a huge following and has become a sensation
Sweeping curves & natural finishes create harmony & balance
With such a natural backdrop of planting, water and thatched ceiling material, we chose to harmonise all the colours, finishes and forms. The result is one of harmony and totally tranquility. Nothing jumps out – the blending of tones and shapes is so easy on the eye! The curved ceiling, the curved bar and the wonderful curved arms of the chairs all tie in. For the bar front we chose a deep green tile that was perfect for using inside and outside of the pool. The flooring tile is a combination of blue and green while for the cushions on the armchairs we selected a lighter green for a subtle contrast with the olive green seating cushions. Guests relax here for hours! Operationally the bar works perfectly too!
