A minimalist & monochromatic new build home
Situated by the Lake in Geneva, we were given the brief to work with a local architect to design the interior alongside them and work in harmony to fulfill the dream of the client for a home.
We worked with a blank canvas, just a piece of land. The client loved twentieth century collector furniture and gave us a list of his favourite artists. We sourced ideas and presented our concept for a monochromatic house with small accents of colour. We chose orange Italian-made bar stools for the kitchen and connected this colour with the orange lamp in the living room, also a Twentieth century piece.
Light & Open
The pure volumes of the space and the full height floor to ceiling windows allowed the light to pour in. We painted the walls and ceilings white for reflectivity and contrasted the light with a dark grey stone floor.
The light fittings selected were by an Italian company, square and sleek and located in key locations, moving away from traditional lighting. Lighting set into the walls at the staircase are a stunning feature and one of the advantages of working with the architect from the outset.
Warmth of wood
We selected two different types of wood for the house. In the kitchen we used an unusual wood veneer from the tree of the XXX. The yellow tones and the strong grain of the wood teamed very well with the use of stainless steel and the stone backsplash.
In the bathrooms we designed a simple wooden vanity top in a dark walnut with a matching framed mirror unit with lighting set into the unit. The frame also became a place to store the client’s perfume and bathroom accessories. Dark grey slate was carried through onto the walls.
The Spirit of Switzerland
Inspiration was taken from the order and organisation in the Swiss culture and the client, who is one of the world’s leading watch dealers. He loved spaces with order and paired back spaciousness. The lack of clutter was very important to him and his wife.
