Maison Jussy, Switzerland

Maison Jussy is a new 101-room student residence in Thônex, Geneva, created around a simple idea: student living should be about much more than having somewhere to sleep. The private rooms provide a place to retreat and recharge, while co-working, communal and social spaces encourage students to meet, work and spend time together. The result is a lively new home designed to create a genuine sense of community and belonging.

The design takes inspiration from contemporary Swiss living, combining simplicity, warmth and functionality with a more youthful and playful character. Clean architectural lines are softened with timber, natural textures and comfortable furnishings, while bold accents of colour bring energy and personality to the communal areas. The result is a contemporary interpretation of the Swiss home that feels welcoming, informal and full of life.

FIG developed the Maison Jussy name and visual identity alongside the interior concept, allowing the brand and the spaces to tell the same story. “Maison” brings a sense of home and belonging, while “Jussy” anchors the identity to its location. Contemporary typography, playful graphics and vibrant accent colours give the residence a recognisable personality and create a brand that could evolve across future locations.

The co-working and communal areas form the social heart of Maison Jussy. Rather than creating conventional study spaces, the concept brings together flexible work areas, comfortable seating and large communal kitchen-style tables where students can work, eat and socialise together. A DJ booth and the potential for music nights and events add another layer to the experience, transforming the space from a place to study during the day into a lively social hub.

Across the building, 101 student rooms are arranged over six floors and a penthouse level, with a variety of room sizes and layouts. Clever integrated furniture combines beds, storage, shelving and study areas to make efficient use of the available space while keeping the rooms calm and uncluttered. Warm timber finishes, durable materials and simple detailing create comfortable private retreats that students can personalise and make their own.

Six shared lounges located across the residential floors create smaller social spaces closer to the student rooms. Conceived as “cosy corners”, they offer informal places to meet, study, work or simply unwind without having to move through the whole building. Together with the dedicated co-working areas and gym, these spaces create a balance between privacy, productivity, wellbeing and social life – making Maison Jussy a place to live, connect and belong.
