Caribbean: The Fusion Interiors Group (FIG) has won the International Hotel & Property Award 2020 for the Best Hotel over 200 rooms in the Americas & Caribbean for its design of the Club Med Playa Esmerelda, Miches, Dominican Republic.

FIG is an interiors and graphic design company based in Shoreditch London, with International studios in Paris, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Dubai, Istanbul, Colombo, Jakarta, and Santo Domingo.

The firm has received an award for the design of the largest 5 Trident Club Med in the world, which stands as an example of FIG’s sustainable approach. The property is imbued with narratives that reflects the location of Miches on the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic.

Club Med Playa Esmerelda is a 93-acre resort that features four individually designed boutique villages created for wellness travellers, families and couples, or those seeking an adventure. The villages are called Archipelago, Caribbean Paradise, Emerald Jungle and Explorer Cove.

The project was awarded for its “luxurious [design] but in an eco-chic away. It is colourful and has a Caribbean feeling while also fitting into the Club Med brand. The ‘eco-chic’ haven atmosphere of the resort not only comes from the spectacular surroundings but the look and feel of the interiors all harmonising with the architecture, landscaping and lighting.”

The International Hotel & Property Awards, hosted by design et al, recognises talent and commends design across a number of different categories. These include hospitality design, interior design, and property design.
